hēRo3 allows you to export models using three different formats: (1) as an .XLSX file; (2) as an .RDS file, which allows models to be run offline in R; and (3) as a .JSON file, which can be used for direct imports into hēRo3 (depending upon your organizations specific use policies, the latter option may not be available to you).
All users may export hēRo3 models to Excel. A hēRo3 model must be able to run successfully before it can be exported to Excel. (If you are having trouble getting a model to run, click here for more information on interpreting error messages in hēRo3 and debugging models). When you export a hēRo3 model as an Excel file, it does not create a functioning version of your model in Excel. Rather, this functionality creates an Excel workbook that contains detailed information about a model’s structure, input values, intermediate calculations, and results.
To export a hēRo3 model to Excel, open the model and run it, click the icon located on the Application Toolbar, and select ‘Export as XLSX’. An Excel file then will be created and saved, typically in your Downloads folder. When you open the file that has been created, you will see that it has four main sections, as follows:
- Input sheets
- Tables sheets
- Calculations sheets
- Results sheets
Each of these sections is described below in turn.
Input Sheets
Each sheet in this section of the file created by Export to Excel corresponds to an input page in hēRo3, as follows:
- ‘Inputs – Settings’
- ‘Inputs – Groups’
- ‘Inputs – Strategies’
- ‘Inputs – States’
- ‘Inputs – Transitions’,
- ‘Inputs – Health Values’
- ‘Inputs – Econ Values’
- ‘Inputs – Health Summ’
- ‘Inputs – Econ Summ’
- ‘Inputs – Parameters’
- ‘Inputs – Surv Dists’
Each of these sheets displays the values assigned to inputs in a model, exactly as they were entered. These sheets can be easily searched, filtered, and sorted using functionality available in Excel, and can be a useful tool when populating input tables for reports or slide decks.
Table Sheets
If there are populated tables in a hēRo3 model, the next section of the Export to Excel file will include a separate worksheet for each table, as well as a listing of information that is stored in each table. If your hēRo3 model does not contain any tables, then the file created by Export to Excel will not contain any such sheets.
Calc Sheets
These sheets display all calculated values for a model, for each selected strategy, and for every cycle of a model. The ‘Calc’ worksheets can be very useful when you want to see whether a model is performing calculations in the manner intended. There are four Calc worksheets, as follows:
- ‘Calc – Params’
- ‘Calc – Trans’
- ‘Calc – Unit Values’
- ‘Calc – Values’
‘Calc – Params’ displays calculated parameter values at the end of every cycle in terms of days, weeks, months, and years elapsed; values are provided for each strategy. If a hēRo3 model uses groups, then calculated parameter values also will be displayed for each group.
‘Calc – Trans’ displays calculated transition probabilities at the end of each cycle, for each strategy and health state. If a model includes groups or tunnel states, calculated transition probabilities also will be displayed for each group or tunnel state.
‘Calc – Unit Values’ displays calculated unit values at the end of each cycle, for each strategy and health state. If a model includes groups, calculated unit values also will be displayed for each group.
‘Calc – Values’ displays calculated values at the end of each cycle that are obtained when trace probabilities and 'unit values’ are multiplied together to yield expected values in each cycle of a model, for each strategy and health state. If a model includes groups, calculated values also will be displayed for each group.
Results Sheets
The Results sheets display undiscounted and discounted outputs that are used to populate all charts and tables in Base Case analyses. These sheets can be used to check the results of a model, or to create your own output displays (eg, in Excel or PowerPoint). The Results sheets include:
- ‘Results – Trace’
- ‘Results – Trace (Corrected)’
- ‘Results – Outcomes’
- ‘Results – Costs’
- ‘Results – CE’
- ‘Results – NMB’
‘Results – Trace’ displays the distribution of patients across all health states in a model on a cycle-by-cycle basis for each strategy.
‘Results – Trace (Corrected)’ displays the distribution of patients across all health states in a model on a cycle-by-cycle basis for each strategy after half-cycle correction has been applied.
‘Results – Outcomes’ displays calculated health outcomes defined on the Summaries page for each Health Value and strategy.
‘Results – Costs’ displays calculated economic outcomes defined on the Summaries page for each Economic Value and strategy.
‘Results – CE’ displays total and incremental LYs, QALYs and costs, as well as the ICER, for each strategy.
‘Results – NMB’ displays the net monetary benefit for each strategy at a given WTP threshold, for each health and economic value.
Export Model Output
In addition to full model exports, hēRo3 allows users to export model output from any of the Results pages. Graphical output can be exported in .PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. Tabular outputs can be exported either as an Excel file (ie, in .XLSX format) or as a comma-delimited file (ie, in .CSV format). This functionality is particularly useful when you want to populate documents such as reports, slide presentations, or emails, with output from a hēRo3 model.
To export hēRo3 model output:
- Open the model
- Navigate to the Results page
- To export a chart as a .PNG file, select ‘Export as PNG’, which is located above the Options Toolbar. To export results in tabular format, navigate to the tabular’ Results page, and then select “Export as CVS” or “Export as XLS”, which are located above the Options Toolbar.
