Groups is the second stop on the hēRo3 Subway. Groups functionality allows you to model a heterogeneous population by defining different mutually exclusive groups of patients that constitute the population being modeled as well as the attributes on which these groups differ. If your model concerns a homogenous population, you can skip this step. Common uses of the group functionality include splitting up a patient population by age, gender, genetic markers, or other relevant demographic and/or clinical characteristics. Groups are displayed in tabular format, with each row representing a different group, specified as follows:
Column |
Description |
Name |
Name of the group. Names must start with a letter and may only contain letters, numbers, and underscores. Group names are limited to 20 characters in total length. |
Description |
Description of the group. Descriptions have no restrictions on the types of characters used and can be up to 30 characters in total length. |
Weight |
Relative weight for the group. When a model is run and more than one group is selected, outcomes and costs will be calculated as a weighted average, using the relative weights you have specified. Weights are automatically normalized over the groups you select for an analysis and do not need to sum to 1. |
Group Attributes (User-Specified) |
An additional column is displayed for each relevant group attribute. Attributes are special variables that can take on a different value for each group. Once you create an attribute, you must enter a value for it for each group. You can reference these attributes as variables in formulas. |
Groups can be included or excluded from analyses using the checkboxes on the corresponding row.
